Patriotism—Become inspired to love your country and fellow countrymen

IMG_1533.JPGPatriotism, the love and devotion to one’s country, is one of the many characteristics that make America a wonderful nation. As defined by Webster’s 1828 English Dictionary, it is also the passion to serve one’s country, either in defending it from invasion, or protecting its rights and maintaining its laws and institutions.

Patriotism serves us each and every day—not just on patriotic holidays. With that in mind, get inspired with these patriotic quotes.

“True patriotism hates injustice in its own land more than anywhere else.”
—Clarence Darrow

“True patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom and equality not only for Americans but for all people on earth, universal brotherhood and goodwill, and a constant and earnest striving toward the principles and ideals on which this country was founded.” —Eleanor Roosevelt

“My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth.” —Abraham Lincoln

“The essence of America — that which really unites us — is not ethnicity, or nationality or religion — it is an idea — and what an idea it is: That you can come from humble circumstances and do great things.”—Condoleezza Rice

“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination, and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” —Harry S. Truman

“Our flag honors those who have fought to protect it, and is a reminder of the sacrifice of our nation’s founders and heroes. As the ultimate icon of America’s storied history, the Stars and Stripes represents the very best of this nation.”
—Joe Barton

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” —John F. Kennedy

“I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. It is the history of our nation, and it’s marked by the blood of those who died defending it.” —John Thune

“Every American soldier wants as much public support as he can possibly have. That’s the soldiers on duty in Iraq, and that’s me, as well. We fight better knowing that our people back home support us, back us, and understand what we’re doing. It’s hugely important.” —John Abizaid
